Your Career
Work in an architectural office producing design and construction documents. Work at a contracting firm as a project co-ordinator, estimator, project inspector, or job co-ordinator. Work in a small design firm specializing in housing projects. Work for a construction equipment manufacturer as a sales representative. Work for a municipality as a building inspector, or plans examiner.
Our Program
This program could be for you if you take a technical interest in how things are built; creative problem solving is a special hobby; you enjoy math and science, and health and safety are important to you. Courses cover what you need to know about fundamental design and planning principles for buildings, and building site development. Students sharpen their computer drawing, basic manual drafting, and sketching skills. Acquiring detailed knowledge of building materials, methods of construction, building science, structural and environmental systems, and building code regulations enables students to render design presentation drawings, and prepare technical working drawings. Students learn about sustainable building design and construction, and also gain an invaluable understanding of how historical buildings are preserved.
Refer to our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) at humber.ca/faq for up-to-date information.
Work Placement
Get hands-on experience during a paid co-op work term in either the architectural profession or construction industry. Students initiate their own co-op placement, which normally takes place from May through August following semester four (minimum 400 hours). Students must also successfully complete a career management course to help them develop effective job and work term search skills, prior to the work term. Humber provides a range of services to support students, including working with business, industry and government to identify co-op employment opportunities.
