The City of Toronto has 116 million square feet of office space, making it the largest office centre in Canada. With internal mechanical systems requiring constant mechanical and technical maintenance, there will always be a demand for people skilled in tending all aspects of building systems. Maintain and monitor the electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, ventilation, roofing, and grounds keeping of school buildings, hotels, etc., as well as office buildings.
Our program teaches apprentices to operate and maintain hand and power tools and equipment; check and inspect fire safety equipment; inspect and maintain electrical systems, air conditioning systems, plumbing, water treatment systems, domestic appliances, ventilation, laundry systems, roofing; operate, troubleshoot and maintain air compressors, chillers and refrigeration machines, pumps and pumping stations; inspect, test and verify emergency power and lighting systems; operate, monitor and maintain heating systems and low pressure boilers. The first year is the same for the mechanic and technician programs.
Refer to our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) at humber.ca/faq for up-to-date information.
