Child Care Facilities

If you have children who require care during the day, while you are in school, plan ahead.

Students with children are welcome to use our licensed child care centres, the Child Development Centre, or the Humber Child Care Centre. The Child Development Centre and Humber Child Care Centre offer full-time care for children from infancy through to six years of age. Full day junior and senior kindergarten classes are available. These child care centres are used by students, staff and the community and provide care for all children including those with special needs. It is usually necessary to register for child care well in advance due to lengthy waiting lists at these two centres. For more information about these services and the fees, call:

Humber Child Care Centre
416.675.6622 ext. 4070

Humber Child Development Centre
416.675.6622 ext. 4484

The above-mentioned centres are located at the Humber North Campus.

Most child care facilities accept children as space becomes available and usually operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Many have waiting lists, and it may take up to six months to arrange for care in a facility of your choice. It usually takes longer to arrange care for infants than for toddlers. We would advise that you select a child care centre whose hours and location allow you to attend classes as scheduled. Your daytime classes can be scheduled between 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. If there is a potential scheduling conflict between your classes and your child care, contact the Counselling Department at 416.675.5090, at least one month prior to the start of classes.

Documentation of the child care’s hours of operation will be required. A counsellor can also discuss with you the best ways to manage school and family life.

If you require subsidized child care apply by contacting Metro Community Service, Intake Offices at 416.392.5437. Apply as soon as possible, as it can take up to six months or more to be approved.

Writing and Mathematics Centres

The School of Liberal Arts & Sciences has established facilities at the Humber North and Lakeshore Campuses to help students who need assistance with English and mathematics skills.

The Writing Centres provide assistance to students needing extra help in English. Students may drop in any time for specific help on a problem, or they may come on a regular basis to work on a program designed to meet their individual needs. In connection with the Writing Centres, computers are available providing students with a variety of the latest software programs designed to augment writing skills development.

The Mathematics Centres offer assistance to students whose pretests and class work have shown their mathematics skills to be weak. Students may drop in when the centres are open for help with a specific problem, or they may come on a regular basis to work on a series of topics designed to meet their individual needs. The Mathematics Centres are open to students from all schools that need help with mathematics.
